Keeping Mother

A 31-Day Devotional for Caregivers

Now Available On:

“A true gift to caregivers and their loved ones.”

The book you hold in your hand is not only a poignant tribute to the author’s journey but also a guiding light for anyone who finds themselves in the role of caregiver, facing the challenges and demands of caring for a loved one in their time of greatest need. Keeping Mother is more than just a book; it is a profound testament to the enduring power of love, faith, and the incredible strength of the human spirit.
One of the most powerful aspects of this book is its focus on the role of faith in the caregiving journey. Darlene beautifully illustrates how faith can be a source of unyielding strength, providing solace and guidance in the most challenging of circumstances. Her devotions will undoubtedly touch the hearts of caregivers, reminding them that they are not alone in their journey and that a tender-hearted Father is watching over them.

“Caregiving is a selfless and demanding call that will be deserving of significant rewards in Heaven. I am a caregiver for a loved one, and I realize very well the energy, emotion, and time required to tend well to the needs of the one you are called to serve. Caregivers are often overlooked, but they need to be supported, encouraged, and invested into. Darlene Goodwin’s 31-day devotional for caregivers, Keeping Mother, is a valuable support instrument that will refresh and empower all who serve and minister in a caregiving capacity. Well done, Darlene, and thank you!”

“If you are a caregiver, this book is for you! As Christ followers, we have the privilege and responsibility to show and share His love with those around us. We are especially entrusted with the care of our own family members, and in Keeping Mother: A 31-Day Devotional for Caregivers, Darlene Goodwin gives us the daily doses of encouragement and biblical guidance we need for giving care that is empowered by God’s Spirit and His grace. Without Him, we can do nothing! But with Christ’s power infusing us, we can love beyond limits and give the excellent care that honors and glorifies God and ministers His life and peace to those whom we ‘keep.’ One thing is certain, when you are a giver, you need refilling. Let this book be a source of refreshment to your soul as you serve Christ by serving others.”

“A spiritually-grounded roadmap to help navigate the arduous job of care giving for a loved one suffering with dementia.”

I was blessed to watch firsthand as Darlene fought through the difficult labor of being a caregiver to honor the love she had for God and her mother. Unfortunately, for many, the labor quickly overwhelms the love from which it is given. The common pattern for those who succeed? Faith in God and an unswaying love for a parent—the two themes of Darlene Goodwin’s book, Keeping Mother: A 31-Day Devotional for Caregivers.

God led my wife and me to start our home care company as a ministry. He asked us to use our experience as caregivers with our parents to help others. Darlene does the same in her devotional. She blessed us as we watched her care for her mother. Her devotional will similarly bless the reader.

Darlene Goodwin is an encourager who loves uplifting stories that make people smile. She is a retired navy lieutenant commander, having served on active duty for twenty years. Following her military service, she went on to serve for ten years in a civilian role in public affairs and speechwriting. It was during her navy career that Darlene discovered her love for the written word, having had the privilege of writing speeches, congressional testimony, and other material for flag officers and senior executives, including the secretary of the navy. She brought her navy career to a close to become a stay-at-home daughter to care for her elderly mother, an experience which inspired her to focus her efforts on writing to encourage other family caregivers. A native of the Sunshine State, Darlene enjoys living in sunny central Florida while reserving a special place in her heart for her beloved Arizona.
