A Heroin Addict’s Journey to Freedom
IN THIS BOOK YOU WILL DISCOVER:
- God has a purpose and destiny for your life. He loves you and wants to heal, deliver, and set you free.
- There is hope for even the worst addict. God can deliver people from the grip of addiction.
- God created you just the way you are for a reason. You are a soldier and a fighter, not a victim.
Laurie Ishii was born and raised in Los Angeles. At fifteen, she began using drugs, joined an Asian gang, and lived a criminal lifestyle. She left the gang not long after getting shot in a drive-by shooting. Wanting a better life, Laurie went to cosmetology school and became a stylist. Partying with musicians and people in the entertainment industry, she was introduced to crack cocaine and heroin. Heroin became her drug of choice, and she began prostituting to support her habit. After four years of prostituting, she attempted suicide by jumping off the roof of her eight-story apartment building. She suffered brain damage, broke her back, and had to learn how to read and write again. In 2000, she got clean, and in 2010, Laurie was diagnosed with third-stage breast cancer. After surgery and cancer treatment, she relapsed on opiates, lost her apartment, and lived in a tent on Skid Row in downtown LA for almost four years until she cried out to Jesus, who began to heal her and helped her get off the street. Laurie has always been a passionate evangelist, and she currently volunteers with the Los Angeles Dream Center, where she goes on the Skid Row outreach with Adopt-a-Block on Saturdays, reaching out and sharing the love of Jesus with addicts, the homeless, and other people she meets on the street. She also serves part-time with the Women’s Dream Center Discipleship program.
